khts_crime_genericUPDATED Monday 11:22 a.m.

A Rancho Cucamonga woman was killed Saturday morning when the car in which she was riding spun out of control and hit a tree on Bouquet Canyon Road.

Sgt. Jeff Ferber of the CHP said that Marissa Hodges, 26, died at the scene of the crash early Saturday morning. Driver Mike Morgan Hemperly, Jr., 24, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and faces charges of vehicular manslaughter when he goes to court on Tuesday.

According to a CHP report, Hemperly was driving his 2001 Porsche at an unknown rate of speed along Bouquet Canyon Road and lost control just north of Texas Canyon Road, hitting a tree and killing his passenger, Hodges.

Hemperly was treated for minor injuries in the crash, then was booked at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's station, where he remains in custody. According to the report, Hodges was wearing a seat belt while Hemperly was not; it was also noted that his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.

The accident reportedly happened around 2:45 a.m., approximately 8 miles up Bouquet Canyon Road from David Way.
