Court Advocates Sought For Domestic Violence Center Training

domesticviolenceA new outreach program of the Domestic Violence Center of the Santa Clarita Valley is being launched in August.

After hearing a Superior Court judge talk about the importance of advocates to stand with and support victims of domestic violence, members of the local Zonta and Soroptimist clubs decided to do something about it.

Special training will be conducted on Tuesday, August 24 at the City’s Activities Center at the Sports Complex. Registration will begin at 9:30 and the training session will be from 10 a.m. -2:30 p.m. Trainers have arranged for volunteers to pay a special price of $75 per person for the four-hour training.

The Center is offering an "Adopt an Advocate" program where other members of the community can donate any sum they would like to help pay for training of Domestic Violence Center Staff to become Domestic Violence Court Advocates. On average, the Domestic Violence Center needs $250 per staff member to cover the cost of their training.

The committee's expectation is that all of people who take the training will sign up to be a court advocate volunteer. The training is open to all community members.

Checks can be mailed to: The Domestic Violence Center of the Santa Clarita Valley, P.O. Box 220037, Newhall, CA 91322. Donors should write “DVCAP Training” in the check memo area.
