Castaic High School Site Subject Of Board Meeting
The Governing Board of the Wm. S. Hart Union High School District may select a site for a future Castaic high school at its July 14 meeting, and the venue has been moved to the theater at Golden Valley High School in order to accommodate a larger-than-usual crowd of interested community members expected to attend. Public session begins at 7 p.m.
The Board will address three agenda items related to a Castaic high school site Wednesday evening. The first item involves final reports from the consultants conducting preliminary studies on the two finalist Castaic area sites—one at the intersection of Hasley and Sloan canyons and the other in Romero Canyon. The consultants have been studying such issues as traffic, geology, environmental impacts and other topics which could affect the cost and time required to build a high school in each site.

The second agenda item, which is scheduled for discussion and possible vote, is selection of one of the two sites to start the California Environmental Quality Assessment (CEQA) analysis. The Board also is scheduled to vote on an item to authorize staff to enter into negotiations to determine a development timeline and purchase price for the selected site.
Also on the evening’s agenda are some administrative positions in the Hart District’s main office and ratification of the 2010-12 collective bargaining agreement between the district and its classified employee union. The Board also will vote on the work schedule and salary for its management and unrepresented employees and will consider several items relating to modernization projects underway at Hart High School and Placerita and Sierra Vista junior high schools.
Golden Valley High School is located at 27051 Robert C. Lee Parkway, off Golden Valley Road just west of Sierra Highway. The Governing Board will enter into a closed session at 5 p.m., followed by the public session at 7 p.m.
