SCV Relay For Life Summer Fundraisers
The American Cancer Society’s 2010 SCV Relay for Life Committee is preparing for next year’s relay with summer fundraisers and events. The committee has raised more than $478,000 and hopes to reach its goal of $600,000 by the August 31 deadline.
A Relay For Life Rummage Sale will be held from 7 -11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, in College of the Canyons Parking Lot #8 located off of Valencia Boulevard. Donations and shoppers from the community are welcome. Teams which participated in the May Relay will set up their own “shops,” collecting their own merchandise for sale and providing their own volunteers to staff each “store.”
A Relay For Life Bowl-A-Thon will take place from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at Santa Clarita Lanes. The event will offer three hours of bowling, shoe rental, two slices of pizza and soda for a $25-per-person entry fee. The American Cancer Society will receive $10 for each participant, and those proceeds also can be counted toward Relay team fund. Local residents are invited to join the SCV Relay team members in the event. Reservations must be made by July 24.

For the thousands of community members who attended the evening Luminaria Ceremony at the 2009 Relay, the committee has produced a DVD version of the ceremony, shot from different angles and complete with music. Cost is $10, and the disk can be ordered at the ACS Web site at www.scvrelay.org and clicking on the link at the left side of the home page. Proceeds from the sale will help the American Cancer Society in its fight against cancer in its many forms.
