City Attorney Carl Newton To Retire
After 23 years as Santa Clarita City Attorney, Carl Newton will officially step down on January 1, 2011.
“Carl Newton has served this city safely for 23 years and has always been professional and pleasant to work with,” said Communications Manager Gail Ortiz. “We are going to miss his stability and his great advice here at City Hall.”

Nevertheless, Newton doesn’t wish to leave law entirely, as he will still be available for special assignments at the Burk, Williams & Sorensen law firm and for consultation on the City’s behalf.
Beginning service in 1987, Newton has been the only City Attorney many Santa Clarita residents have ever known. Before that, he practiced law in local government in Manhattan Beach, Azusa and Downey.
Assistant City Attorney Joseph Montes will assume Newton’s position on January 1, 2011.
KHTS will have an interview with Mr. Newton on Monday.
