Canyon Grad Greg Pursley Has New Car For NASCAR West Series Race

khts_sportsThe NASCAR K&N Pro Series West is at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale this weekend. Canyon High graduate Greg Pursley is looking to get his season back on track at the track that yielded him a stock car national championship a few years ago.

Pursley, seventh in the West Series standings, is bringing a new car to Irwindale for the King Taco 200 on Saturday night.

After the West Series race at Irwindale, Pursley and his Gene Price Motorsports team are headed to Iowa Speedway to make their debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Meanwhile in the Firestone Indy Lights Series, Bryan Herta Autosport is looking to keep its momentum alive.

Fresh off winning the Indy Lights race at Iowa Speedway with driver Sebastian Saavedra two weeks ago, Bryan Herta Autosport, owned in part by Valencia’s Bryan Herta, heads to Watkins Glen International in New York for a road-course race on Sunday.

The race at Watkins Glen is the first of five road and street course events over the next eight weeks in the Indy Lights series.

Saavedra is fourth in the Indy Lights standings. Teammate Stefan Wilson is sixth in the Indy Lights standings.

In the Valley Invitational Baseball League, Hart beat Simi Valley 10-4. Daniel Dietz was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and scored two runs for Hart. Teammate Dallas Bacon was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

The Lakers have yet to make a big free-agent signing, but they have coach Phil Jackson back for one more season.

Jackson will be in pursuit of third straight NBA championship with the Lakers and his 12th NBA championship as coach. He is making a habit of NBA championship three-peats. He won three in a row with the Chicago Bulls twice. He won three in a row with the Lakers during the Shaq and Kobe years. He has won two straight with the current Lakers, taking down the Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics.

Now all the Lakers need to do is get the Derek Fisher deal done and everything should be in place for another title run.

The Dodgers are in Arizona to start a three-game weekend series with the Diamondbacks. There will be a familiar face leading the Diamondbacks. Kirk Gibson, hero of the 1988 World Series for the Dodgers, has been named the interim manager after the Diamondbacks fired AJ Hinch.

There will be another familiar face and arm on the mound for the Diamondbacks. Edwin Jackson, former Dodger pitching prospect fresh off a no-hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays last week, starts for the Diamondbacks.

The Dodgers counter with Hiroki Kuroda. Pregame starts at 6 on AM 1220, KHTS.
