New Development Planned Next To Sierra Hwy
The southeast corner of Newhall Avenue and Sierra Highway could become the city’s Newhall Gateway.
During Tuesday’s city council meeting a site plan proposal was approved. The development could bring a new hotel, shopping center, office spaces and parking garage.
The site is expected to bring in nearly a million dollars in annual tax revenue for the city.
Adjacent to the 14 freeway, it is conceived to be the Newhall Gateway which will lead visitors and residents into downtown Newhall.
There are currently four property owners that make up the site; USC, Norma Minna Trust, Rouse and Rouse, LLC and SFSX partners. The plan was submitted by SFSX Partners with both USC and SXFX involved in stakeholder meetings. The Norma Minna Trust has not participated.
During the city council meeting Mayor Laurene Weste expressed concern about the architecture of the building that it wasn’t fitting enough for the Newhall Gateway. The Poliquin Kellogg Design Group assured the council that it was conceptual only and that it could be changed.
