SCV Motorcyclists Ride For A Cause
The inaugural “Magic Ride – Ridin’ For A Cause” which benefits the Santa Clarita Boys and Girls Club Foundation, was held this past Sunday at Six Flags Magic Mountain. The event was the kick-start to the 39th Annual “Born to Be Wild” benefit auction, which will be held Saturday, June 12.
Registration for the event began early Sunday morning as hundreds of motorcyclists lined up in front of the theme park. By 9 a.m. all riders and passengers were on their bikes, with helmets on and ready for the 81-mile ride through the Santa Clarita Valley. The riders made a total of four stops including one at the Boys and Girls Club in Newhall.
Around 1 p.m. riders began to ease their way back to Magic Mountain where the festivities continued. There they enjoyed barbecue lunch and beer garden. Also, they were entertained with live music from Neal & The Real Deal while they purchased raffle tickets and previewed auction items.
“Three months ago we came up with the idea of ‘Magic Ride’ thinking we would have 50 riders. The day before the event we already had over 200 preregistered riders,” said John Mahaffey, director of the Santa Clarita Boys and Girls Club Foundation. The proceeds from the event will fund afterschool and outreach programs for the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clarita.
Magic Mountain President Jay Thomas helped Mahaffey with the event and is looking forward to a successful auction Saturday night. There is still time to buy tickets for the “Born to Be Wild” benefit auction. To reserve a table or buy tickets contact the Foundation office at (661) 254-3063 or visit their website, www.scvbgc.org.
