Two non-injury traffic accidents, one of them taking out a power pole near Canyon High School, left a large section of Santa Clarita in the dark early Monday morning, according to officials from the sheriff’s department and Edison.
At 2:57 a.m., a car driven by an alleged drunk driver, collided with a power pole, knocking it down, at Whites Canyon Road and Nadal Drive, near Canyon High School. Edison spokesman Charlie Coleman said that 1,600 customers lost power immediately. Boundaries of the outage were Plum Canyon on the north, Soledad Canyon on the south, Walnut Springs on the east and Canyon ViewDrive on the west.
Coleman said that 180 customers had power restored by 4:41 a.m. and another 180 by 7 a.m. At 11:45, all customers but one were back up, with the final customer expected to have power by 4 p.m.
Sgt. Ron Price said that there was another non-injury crash at 3:12 a.m. at Bouquet Canyon Road and Wellston Drive. Price said that some residents lost power, but Coleman said that there were no customers without service in the area.
