Holen, Chang Advance To CIF-SCGA Golf Tournament

khts_sportsWest Ranch’s J.J. Holen and Valencia’s Jonathan Chang are moving on to the CIF-SCGA golf tournament after making the cut in Southern Section Individual Finals.

Both golfers shot 4-over 76, good enough for the SCGA Tournament in Temecula next week, but just barely.

The cut was 76. The top 28 golfers in the CIF Southern Section Individual Finals at the La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc advanced to the SCGA Tournament at the SCGA Members Course.

Chang was 1-over par and playing a consistent round through 16 holes. Then he bogeyed the 17th hole and lost his ball on the 18th. He wound up his round with a double-bogey and had to sweat it out as scores were posted after the tournament.

Holen, who won the CIF Northern Regional Individual championship, had two birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey.

Patrick Cantlay from Servite in Anaheim won the CIF Southern Section Individual Final with a 4-under par 68. He was the only golfer to shoot under par at La Purisima and won the tournament by four strokes.

In high school softball, Valencia and Hart are in action today and headed to Orange County in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs.

Valencia, the top-seeded team in the tournament, is on the road and will play Valencia of Placentia. Hart is also on the road and will play Rosary of Fullerton.

The Lakers are preparing for tonight’s Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference Finals against the Phoenix Suns and injured center Andrew Bynum is part of that preparation.

Coach Phil Jackson said he is planning on playing Bynum, despite his injured knee. Bynum was limited to seven minutes and two points in the Lakers 118-109 loss to the Suns in Game 3.

Tip-off for Game 4 is at 6.

The Dodgers are in Chicago to start a three-game series with the Cubs. Rafael Furcal is expected to be back the lineup at shortstop for the Dodgers in Chicago.

The suddenly unhittable Clayton Kershaw gets the start for the Dodgers. He will be looking to win his fourth game in a row. Kershaw has a miniscule 0.81 ERA over his past three starts. He goes up against Ryan Dempster for the Cubs. Dempster has a five-game winless streak, but he has a won his last six decisions against the Dodgers.

Pregame starts at 4:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
