Valencia Baseball Team Rallies In 7th Against Saugus

khts_sportsThe Valencia baseball team rallied for five runs in the seventh inning to beat Saugus, 7-3.

Brian Mundell drove in the game-tying run with a double in the seventh. Nick Rivas put Valencia on top with a two-run single and Alex Lightfoot capped the seventh-inning rally with an RBI single.

Evan Steen gave Saugus a 3-2 lead in fifth inning with an RBI double. Teammate James Threw was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The West Ranch baseball team beat Hart, 10-2. Allen Sarkissian hit a three-run homer and J.C. Cloney tossed a complete game five-hitter for West Ranch. Chris Caldwell hit a solo home run for West Ranch.

Sarkissian finished with four RBIs and teammate Jared Ortiz hit a double and extended his hitting streak to 23 games.

Hart scored both of its runs on a two-run double by sophomore Dallas Bacon in the fourth inning.

Golden Valley shut out Canyon, 3-0. Scott Barlow went the distance, scattering eight hits and striking out six for his first career high school shutout. Kamran Young drove in Golden Valley’s first run with an RBI single in the first inning. Jon Granado drove in a run with a double and Anthony San Miguel added a run-scoring single in the sixth inning.

Patrick Roxbury and Thomas Kratky each went 2-for-3 for Canyon.

In high school diving, Canyon freshman Connor Ferris won the boys Foothill League diving championship at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center.

Hart senior Kali Whitehurst won the girls league championship, edging out teammate and reigning league champ Nadia Tseng.

The Foothill League swim finals begin today at the Aquatic Center.

In high school track and field, the Foothill League finals are at the College of the Canyons Cougar Stadium.

In high school tennis, the boys Foothill League finals are at the Paseo Club.

Kobe Bryant earned a spot on the NBA’s all-defensive team for the fifth straight time. Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic was voted as the NBA’s defensive player of the year.

LeBron James, the NBA MVP from the Cleveland Cavaliers, made the team for the second year in a row. Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo and Charlotte Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace made the team for the first time in their careers.

The Dodgers were blown out again by the Milwaukee Brewers, 11-3. Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley gave up four runs in the first inning. The Brewers tacked on five more runs in the eighth inning. Rickie Weeks was 3-for-5 and drove in three runs for the Brewers.

James Loney was again the lone bright spot for the Dodgers, going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Perhaps more good news, Manny Ramirez is expected back in the Dodgers lineup on Saturday against the Rockies.
