Local Teen Picked To Sing National Anthem At SCV Dodger Day

andreadodgerwinnerA Newhall resident has been chosen to sing the National Anthem at the 33rd annual SCV Dodger Day on May 8.

Andrea Lewis,18, almost missed the deadline to turn in her audition, but went on to beat out 38 other submissions.

She will sing the National Anthem as well as come back down to the field at Chavez Ravine to sing God Bless America during the seventh inning stretch.

"Im really excited.  I feel honored and blessed to be given this opportunity," said Lewis.  "It's a chance of a lifetime for me."

Singing is not a new thing for Lewis, her father Ed says that she has been singing since she was 5, and it is her passion and her way of communicating.

Lewis is senior at Hillcrest Christian School in Mission Hills a member of it's Harvest Choir.

She was called by Pat Downing, Head of the Dodger Day Committee, and told that she was chosen as a finalist, but confusion between the Dodgers camp and the SCV Dodger Day Committee led to a longer then expected revealing process for the winner.

Ed Lewis was notified by Downing that his daughter had won the contest, but decided to wait to tell her until the right time.

"Pat called and assumed that the Dodgers had notified us that Andrea had won, but we had no clue," said Ed Lewis.  "So we decided to tell Andrea in front of all of her friends.  They we screaming and jumping around and so excited for her."

Lewis is expected to graduate from the small private school this June, but her singing career isn't over.  She plans to peruse that career after graduation, but will also attend College of the Canyons.

This summer she plans to sing with her brother Bradley's band "Fall Into Faith."  The band was chosen to play at the LetMeSail car show at the Saugus Speedway this June.

The SCV Dodger Day event starts at 7:10 p.m. at Dodger Stadium on May 8, and will also feature SCV Chamber of Commerce Chairman John Shaffery, of Poole & Shaffery, LLP, throwing the first pitch.

Tickets sales for the event have ended, but general admission tickets can still be purchased through the Dodger Stadium Box office.
