Hart Softball Team Beats West Ranch With 7th Inning Home Run

sportshartHart's Lauren Anderson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give her team a 7-6 win over West Ranch and create a three-way tie for second place in the Foothill League softball standings.

Hart, West Ranch and Saugus are 3-2 in league with two games to play. Valencia is undefeated in league at 5-0.

Hart's Elizabeth Henry homered in the second inning.

West Ranch's Kylie Sorenson and Lauren Lombardi each hit home runs. Lombardi added an RBI single in the first inning and Alex Gaff drove in two runs with a single in the second inning.

The Valencia softball team got a three-run home run from Madison Shipman in a 3-0 win over Canyon. Valencia starter Carly Mortensen pitched a two-hitter. Danielle Sullivan and Jenny Wunderlich got the only two hits for Canyon.

The Saugus softball team beat Golden Valley, 9-1. Ashley Butera drove in three runs and was 3-for-4 for Saugus. Teammates Jackie Shimamoto and Randi Jossett each drove in two runs.

In high school golf, Valencia's Jonathan Chang has a one-stroke lead in the Newhall Land Cup Foothill League final at the TPC in Valencia. Chang shot a 3-under par 69 and is one shot ahead of West Ranch's C.J. Espino after the first round in the Newhall Land Cup.

Play resumes today at the TPC in Valencia.

In high school volleyball, Hart beat West Ranch in four games. J.J. Mosolf had 11 kills and seven blocks for Hart. Michael Scott had 15 kills to lead West Ranch.

The Saugus boys volleyball team beat Golden Valley, 3-0. Saugus setter Ryan Mason had 27 assists and T.J. Jeffris had seven kills and six blocks for Saugus.

In high school tennis, the Valencia boys won the Foothill League championship with a 17-1 win over Canyon. Valencia went undefeated in league with a 9-0 record.

The Lakers left no doubt in Game 5 of the opening round of the NBA playoffs against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Lakers won, 111-87, to take a 3-2 lead in the series. The Lakers built such a huge lead that Kobe Bryant sat out the fourth quarter and scored only 13 points. Pau Gasol scored 25 points and had 11 rebounds.

The Lakers can wrap up the series in Oklahoma City on Friday night.

The Dodgers lost both games of a doubleheader against the Mets. The good news is the Dodgers snapped a 21-inning scoreless drought. The bad news is it wasn't nearly enough to challenge the Mets.

The Dodgers lost the first game, 4-0, and lost the second game, 10-5.

That makes three losses in a row for the Dodgers. They will try to end that streak this morning against the Mets. Pregame starts at 9:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
