khts_sportsValencia's Justin Hanks pitched his team to a much-needed 7-2 win over a suddenly dangerous Golden Valley baseball team.

Valencia avoided a three-game losing streak in Foothill League play and snapped Golden Valley's four-game winning streak. Jake Roberge provided the punch for Valencia, going 2-for-3, scored two runs and drove in one. Teammate Kyle Eaton was 2-for-4 with a double and scored two runs.

Golden Valley's Kamran Young knocked in both of his team's run with a double in the sixth inning.

The Hart baseball team scored six runs in the first inning in a 12-4 rout against Saugus. Nolan Simons was 4-for-5 with three singles and a double for Hart. He drove in two runs with a double in the third inning. Hart collected 10 hits. J.T. Barnes had a two-run single in a four-run third inning.

Nick Lombardi hit a two-run home run for Saugus in the seventh inning.

West Ranch's Nico Rusconi hit a two-run home run in his team's 7-1 win over Canyon. Ryan Keller pitched a complete game for West Ranch, striking out six and giving up five hits.

The Canyon softball team split a pair of games in the Valley Classic. Canyon beat Santa Clara, 8-2, and lost to Oaks Christian, 6-1.

Canyon pitcher Leanne Hill struck out 11 batters and won the first game. She also had two hits at the plate and drove in a run against Santa Clara.

Hayley Bottino, Jenny Wunderlich and Danielle Sullivan each had two hits in the second game against Oaks Christian.

In football, Hart High graduate Ryan Wolfe will try to make the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent after signing with the team after the NFL draft over the weekend. Wolfe, a wide receiver at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, went undrafted.

In his senior season at UNLV, Wolfe caught 74 passes for 760 yards and two touchdowns. He heads to Falcons minicamp on May 7.

The Kings were eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs after a 4-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks. Vancouver scored three goals in the third period.

Alexander Frolov scored in the first period to give the Kings a 1-0 lead. Drew Doughty scored in the second period to put the Kings up 2-1. But the Kings couldn't hold the lead.

Daniel Sedin buried the game-winner with just over two minutes to play. Alex Burrows scored an empty-netter to end the Kings' season and playoff run. The Canucks won the series, 4-2.

The Dodgers lost a heartbreaker, 1-0, to the Washington Nationals, squandering an outstanding performance from starter Chad Billingsley.

The Nationals scored the only run of the game on an RBI single by Adam Dunn in the first inning. Billingsley gave up only four hits in six innings and struck out five.

The Dodgers move on to New York for a three-game series against the Mets starting tonight. It will be Hiroki Kuroda on the mound for the Dodgers against Oliver Perez for the Mets. Pregame starts at 3:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
