Valencia Boys Volleyball Team Sweeps Hart, Stays Undefeated In League
The Valencia boys volleyball team ran its Foothill League record to a perfect 5-0 in a three-game sweep over Hart. It was the 87th straight league win for Valencia and the first league loss for Hart this season.
Eric Ensing had a team-high 12 kills for Valencia. Griffin Nichols added 10 kills and setter Steven Crane had 34 assists and four blocks.
J.J. Mosolf led Hart with 12 kills and 10 assists.
The Golden Valley boys volleyball team swept West Ranch in three games for its third win in league play. Ryan Kessler had 11 kills to lead Golden Valley. Teammate Alex Schlossman had 10 kills.
West Ranch setter Josh Escoe had 30 assists in directing the offense.
The Canyon boys volleyball team won its first league match of the season in four games over Saugus. Curtis VanGrinsven had 14 kills and four blocks for Canyon and setter Robert Soto had 43 assists.
Matt Coleman had 16 kills and T.J. Jeffris had nine kills for Saugus.
The Valencia boys and girls swim teams beat Golden Valley in a dual meet at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center. The Valencia boys won 106-55. The Valencia girls won 106-64.
Valencia's Dakota Miller won the 500 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke on the boys side. Jamie Bloom won the 200 freestyle on the girls side for Valencia.
The Lakers made it a little too close for comfort in beating the Oklahoma City Thunder, 95-92, in Game 2 of the first round of the NBA playoffs. Kobe Bryant scored 39 points and Pau Gasol had 25 points and 12 rebounds.
The pesky Thunder blocked 17 shots, three short of an NBA playoff record, and had a lead late in the fourth quarter.
The Lakers are up 2-0 against the Thunder. Game 3 is in Oklahoma City is Thursday.
The Dodgers are off to a bumpy start to their nine-game road trip. They lost to the Cincinnati Reds, 11-9, giving up two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Matt Kemp hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning. It was his sixth of the season. Casey Blake drove in four runs, three with a double in the first inning and one more with a triple in the sixth.
But always dangerous Paul Janish drove in the winning run for the Reds with a single in the eighth inning.
The Dodgers continue their series with the Reds today. Hiroki Kuroda gets the start for the Dodgers. Aaron Harang and his 7.88 ERA are on the mound for the Reds. Pregame starts at 3:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
The Kings will look to take a commanding lead in the Stanley Cup playoffs against the Vancouver Canucks. Game 4 of the playoffs are tonight at Staples Center. The Kings are up 2-1 after a 5-3 win on Monday night.
