Saugus Softball Team Rallies In Seventh Inning Against Hart
The Saugus softball team scored three runs in the seventh inning to beat Hart, 5-2, in the annual Lauren Blair memorial game at the Hart PONY Complex.
Randi Jossett drove in two runs for Saugus with a single in the first inning. She also scored in the three-run seventh for Saugus.
Juli Strange hit a solo home run for Hart in the sixth inning and teammate Tracy Chandless was 2-for-3 and scored a run.
The Valencia softball team squeaked out a 3-2 win over West Ranch. Megan Foglesong drove in a run and Carly Mortensen pitched a complete game for Valencia.
Bryanna De La Torre hit an RBI double and scored a run for West Ranch. Bailey Foster got the start for West Ranch and struck out six in seven innings.
The Hart boys volleyball team beat Saugus in four games. Taylor Gregory and J.J. Mosolf led Hart with 11 kills apiece. Matt Coleman had 11 kills for Saugus.
The Golden Valley boys volleyball team swept Canyon in three games. Setter Josh Escoe had 33 assists in leading the Golden Valley attack.
The Valencia boys volleyball team posted a 3-0 win over West Ranch. Broc Oppler led Valencia with nine kills.
In college softball, the College of the Canyons beat Glendale, 18-1. Ruby Herrera hit a home run, had three hits and drove in five runs. Alexis Tellez collected four hits in the win for COC.
The Master's College baseball team is making a habit of beating Point Loma Nazarene. For the second day in a row, The Master's College beat Point Loma Nazarene, the ninth-ranked team in the NAIA.
Joe Zeller drove in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning to give his team a 4-3 win. Steve Vranau hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning.
Hart High graduate Kyle Boller is headed to the Oakland Raiders, according to a report by the Associated Press. Boller, who played quarterback for the St. Louis Rams last season, was signed after Raiders quarterback Bruce Gradkowski tore a pectoral muscle lifting weights. Boller joins JaMarcus Russell and Charlie Frye as quarterbacks on the Raiders.
The Kings are down 1-0 in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. They lost in overtime, 3-2, to the Vancouver Canucks. Mikael Samuelsson scored the game winner for the Canucks. He had two goals in the game, scoring on a power play in the second period.
Fredrik Modin and Jarret Stoll scored for the Kings. Game 2 of the series is Saturday in Vancouver.
The Dodgers scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth and another in the 10th to beat the Diamondbacks, 6-5. Andre Ethier drove in the game-winning run with a one-out single in extra innings.
The Giants come into town tonight to start a three-game weekend series. Vicente Padilla gets the start for the Dodgers. The Giants will send Todd Wellemeyer to the mound. Pregame starts at 6:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
