Fourth Annual Evening Of Remembrance
The City of Santa Clarita, the Blue Ribbon Task Force, and the City Council will host the 4th Annual Evening of Remembrance at the City's Youth Grove in Central Park.
The annual event takes place on April 21 and focuses on the importance of safe driving by remembering local youth who lost their lives in traffic-related collisions.
"Teen driving safety remains a huge concern both nationally and locally, and it is so important for our Santa Clarita youth to understand how crucial it is to be responsible behind the wheel," said Councilmember and Blue Ribbon Task Force member Laurie Ender. "The City hosts the annual Youth Grove Evening of Remembrance event right before local prom nights and graduation to remind our teen drivers to make the right choices as they celebrate these rites of passage."
The free event, which will begin at 7 p.m., is open to the public and will include a reading of the 79 names represented at the Youth Grove.
The half-acre Youth Grove features individual pillars that mimic cut tree stumps, each representing a young life cut short on the road.
The pillars surround a central monument featuring the "KNOW MORE" vow urging the community to "know more" about safe driving habits, and to pledge that "no more" young lives will be lost from drinking and driving, or from reckless and irresponsible choices.
Central Park is located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road.
