Earthquakes Reported In Baja California Felt In SCV
A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck Baja California at 3:41 p.m. and was felt in Santa Clarita as a rolling motion, but no damages were reported. The quake was initially reported as being a 6.9 magnitude quake, but was upgraded by the U.S. Geological Survey two hours after the initial temblor.
Aftershocks continued on both sides of the Mexican/California border, including a 3.6 magnitude at 4:22 p.m. 7 miles NE of Julian; 5.1 magnitude at 4:15 p.m. 1 mile west of Imperial.
Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station said that the quake was felt at the station on Magic Mountain Parkway, but that deputies conducting routine earthquake checks immediately after reported no damage. He added that deputies at the station desk had not received any calls about damage or injuries.
E-mails to KHTS as well as postings on Facebook reported the quake was felt in the Sand Canyon and Canyon Country areas.
