Captain La Berge promoted, new man assigned.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has rewarded Santa Clarita Valley station Captain Anthony La Berge with a promotion to Commander. That designation will require La Berge's relocation, and our valley has been assigned a new "Chief of Police."

Captain Paul Becker was recently named as our new Captain and will take up his post next week.

"I am absolutely thrilled to be named as the new police chief at the Santa Clarita Valley Station. I believe my experience and my enthusiasm for this new challenge, combined with the great team at the SCV Station will be a benefit to the community," commented Captain Becker.

Captain Becker is a Santa Clarita resident. He was chosen after a series of interviews with our local City Council, City Manager and community members.

"Captain Becker brings a broad range of experience to the job and will be a tremendous asset for the Santa Clarita Valley Station," added Ken Pulskamp, City Manager.

His 30-year service record includes operating in contract law, transit services and robbery & assaults team in the Palmdale, Avalon, Carson and Lakewood stations, as well as in Men's Central Jail. Most recently he served as Lieutenant for the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau, gang task force, unsolved murder team and active murder team.

Becker has lived in Santa Clarita since 1997, and says he looks forward to meeting with members of the community and addressing their concerns.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich released the following statement Friday:

"While we will miss the superb leadership and service of Captain Anthony LaBerge, we wish him well in his new position as Commander in the Sheriff's Department," said Antonovich. "We also welcome Captain Paul Becker who brings nearly 30 years of experience to the Santa Clarita Valley Station with his work as a Lieutenant in the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and a member of the gang task force. With his leadership and enthusiasm as head of the top-notch team of law enforcement professionals in the SCV Station, Captain Becker work successfully with the community to serve the residents of Santa Clarita Valley to protects life and property."
