CHP Will Conduct DUI Checkpoint Tonight

altDrinking and driving are a deadly combination and the CHP wants to create awareness to deter the public from driving under the influence.

The CHP Newhall Area Office will be conducting a DUI checkpoint somewhere in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County from Friday 8 p.m. until Saturday 2:30 a.m.

The goal of the DUI checkpoints is to create awareness among the motoring public and to deter people from driving under the influence.

Even though the arrest totals do not rise dramatically, the psychological influence a checkpoint has on the public is one of major value for the CHP.

Another CHP program will also be launched this week, targeting previous DUI offenders. Even after someone is arrested, some individuals fail to appear in court to be held accountable for their actions.

With the help of a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, the DUI Warrant Service Project will help combat this problem by creating teams of officers whose specific purpose is to serve DUI warrants throughout the state.

If an individual has an outstanding DUI warrant, they can turn themselves in at their local CHP office, or risk being arrested wherever they are found.
