Saugus Girls Soccer Team Bounced From CIF Playoffs

sportslocalThe Saugus girls soccer team will not repeat as champions of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs.

Saugus, the 2009 Division II champions, lost to Flintridge Sacred Heart, 3-2, and was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Bianca Lorenz and Shasta Fisher gave Saugus a 2-0 lead with goals in the first half, but Flintridge Sacred Heart scored three goals in the second half to advance to the semifinals.

 

In college basketball, the College of the Canyons women lost to L.A. Trade Tech, 68-66, in the first round of the Southern California Regionals for the California Community College Athletic Association.

COC entered the playoffs with an undefeated Western State Conference record and a 19-game winning streak. Ashley Wakefield scored 15 points for COC in the loss.

The Master's College men's basketball team beat Pt. Loma Nazarene, 72-61. Dean Hadley scored a game-high 23 points for The Master's College, winners of two of their last three games.

The Master's College women lost to Pt. Loma Nazarene, 83-62, despite a double-double from Liah Ector. She scored 25 points and had 12 rebounds in the loss.

Pt. Loma Nazarene handed The Master's College its third straight loss.

The Master's College men and women wrap up the Golden State Athletic Conference season against Fresno Pacific tonight.

The Lakers got 20 points and 12 rebounds from Lamar Odom in a 95-89 win over the Denver Nuggets, a preview of what many consider the NBA Western Conference Finals.

It was the first time this season the Lakers beat the Nuggets. Pau Gasol scored 15 points and had 14 rebounds. Kobe Bryant had a relatively quiet night, scoring 14 points on 3-of-17 shooting. On a more positive note, he did dish out 12 assists.

The Clippers lost to the Sacramento Kings, 97-92. Chris Kaman scored 18 points and had 11 rebounds for the Clippers. Newly acquired Drew Gooden had another impressive game with 17 points.

In the Winter Olympics, the U.S. men's hockey team lost to Canada, 3-2, in overtime of the gold-medal game. Sidney Crosby scored the game-winner for Canada after the United States erased a 2-0 deficit to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Ryan Kesler's goal for the U.S. in the second period cut Canada's lead in half. Zach Parise tied the game with 25 seconds left in regulation.

It wasn't all silver for the United States on the final day of the Olympics.

The U.S. four-man bobsled team won gold and ended a 62-year drought in the event. The gold medal gave the United States nine total of the Winter Games and 37 to lead all nations. Germany won 10 golds and 30 medals total, second best among nations in the Olympics. Canada was third with 26 medals and 14 golds.
