COC Women's Basketball Team Open Playoffs Against LA Trade Tech

sportslocalThe College of the Canyons women's basketball team earned the 11th seed in the Southern California Regional playoffs and will face No. 6 L.A. Trade Tech in the first round on Saturday night.

The COC women beat Citrus College, 78-61, to win the Western State Conference championship with a perfect 12-0 record. Joslynn Frazier scored 21 points and had 12 rebounds in her team's win.

COC has won 19 straight games and compiled a 22-4 overall record. It is the second time in school history that the COC women were undefeated in conference play.

L.A. Trade Tech is 22-3 and 5-3 in the Southcoast, Northern Division Conference.

The College of the Canyons men's basketball team lost to Citrus College, 73-66. Brannon Bradley scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds in the loss.

The Master's College men's basketball team grinded out a 60-42 win over Hope International. Everett Bryson scored a team-high 12 points and Joey Fuca added 11 for The Master's College.

The Master's College women lost to Hope International, 63-59. Erica Inge scored 17 points.

In college baseball, The Master's College lost to the University of British Columbia, 4-3.

The CIF basketball playoffs continue today. The Canyon boys are home for a Division IIAA quarterfinal game against Burbank.

Saugus gets a home game against top-seeded Summit in another Division IIAA quarterfinal game.

Golden Valley is on the road against Serra in the Division IIIA quarterfinals.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys are home against Tarbut in the Division VIAA quarterfinals.

In the CIF soccer playoffs, the Canyon boys are home against La Quinta in the second round of the Division III playoffs.

The Valencia Rockets, a youth ice hockey team that plays out of the Valencia Ice Station, won a PeeWee level tournament in Las Vegas. The Rockets beat the Las Vegas Ice Cats, 3-1, in the championship game. Jason Hickman scored two goals for the Rockets. Dominic Carillo scored the game-winner early in the third period. Rockets goaltender Nathan Cabuco was the MVP of the championship game.

Break up the Clippers. They have won two games in a row, knocking off the Charlotte Bobcats, 98-94. Six players scored in double figures for the Clippers. Rasual Butler led the way with 20 points and Chris Kaman scored 18 and had 13 rebounds.

Kobe Bryant is expected to be in the Lakers starting lineup tonight against the Memphis Grizzlies. Bryant has missed five games nursing a sprained ankle. The Lakers went 4-1 in his absence, but the team is coming off a one-point loss to the Boston Celtics at Staples Center.

In the Winter Olympics, the U.S. women's hockey team beat Sweden, 9-1, to advance to the gold medal game. Monique Lamoureux scored three goals for the United States, which will face Canada in the gold-medal game. Canada beat Finland, 4-0, in their semifinal game.

The medal count stands with the United States leading with 25 and seven gold. Germany is second with 21 medals. Norway is third with 14. Host Canada is fifth in the medal standings with 10.
