Canyon Boys Soccer Team Remains Unbeaten In Foothill League Play

sportscanyonThe Canyon boys soccer team kept its unbeaten streak in the Foothill League in tact, but was handed its first draw, playing to a scoreless tie against Valencia.

Canyon has an 8-0-1 Foothill League record and sits atop the standings.

Valencia is in second place in the Foothill League with a 7-1-1 record.

 

Saugus scored three second-half goal in a 3-0 shutout over Hart. James Bunch had a goal and an assist for Saugus. Joey Rodriguez and Manny Padron also scored for Saugus.

West Ranch beat Golden Valley, 5-3. Matt Duben scored two goals to lead West Ranch.

On the girls side, Saugus shut out Hart, 1-0, on a goal by Shasta Fisher. Saugus, the reigning CIF Southern Section Division II champs, can do no worse than finish with a share of the Foothill League title.

In high school basketball, the Valencia boys and Golden Valley boys are tied for first place in the Foothill League after posting big wins last night. Valencia beat Canyon, 50-41, behind 12 points from center Aaron Spargo.

Golden Valley posted an 87-70 win over West Ranch. Trevor Wiseman scored 19 points for Golden Valley. West Ranch's Elias Lucas led all scorers with 21 points.

The Saugus boys beat Hart, 76-61. Brad Buchignani scored 14 points for Saugus.

The Canyon girls grinded out a 62-32 win over Valencia. Adriana Dent scored a team-high 10 points for Canyon.

West Ranch won easily against Golden Valley, 75-30, behind 13 points from Brittni Walker. Canyon and West Ranch are tied for first place in the Foothill League standings with 8-1 records. The two teams meet on Thursday night.

The Saugus girls beat Hart, 59-49. Kaylynn Martin scored 18 points for Saugus.

The Master's College men's basketball team lost to Concordia, 79-75, in a match-up of top 25 teams in the NAIA. Concordia is ranked No. 3 in the NAIA. The Master's College is No. 16. Joey Fuca scored a team-high 22 points for The Master's College and led all scorers in the game. Leif Karlberg added 13 off the bench.

The Master's College women had an easier time against Concordia, winning 74-68. Brittany Henderson had 17 points and 15 rebounds for The Master's College. Lena Rivera scored a team-high 20 points.

The Clippers blew a 10-point lead and lost to the Utah Jazz, 109-99. It was the ninth win in a row for the Jazz. Carlos Boozer had a big night, scoring 34 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in his team's win. Baron Davis scored 16 points and had nine assists for the Clippers.

The Lakers are in Utah tonight to face the Jazz. Kobe Bryant and Andrew Bynum are still nursing injuries. It looks like Bynum will most likely sit out his second straight game with a sore hip. Bryant has a better chance of playing, despite a sprained ankle and broken finger.
