Canyon Boys Basketball Team 3-0 In Foothill League

sportscanyonThe Canyon boys basketball team improved to 3-0 in Foothill League play with a convincing 57-48 win over Saugus.

Wesley Bartole led the way for Canyon with 17 points and seven rebounds. Canyon center Brian Nnajoi scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds.

Brian Buchignani had a team-high 11 points for Saugus.


The Golden Valley boys won their second league game in a row, 75-68, over Valencia. In a match-up of two of the top scorers in the Santa Clarita Valley, Golden Valley's Trevor Wiseman poured in 27 to 13 for Valencia's Lonnie Jackson.

The West Ranch boys won their first league game, 62-56, and handed Hart its third straight league loss. Martin Flowers scored a team-high 13 points for West Ranch. Cole Preston scored 16 points for Hart.

The Santa Clarita Christian boys lost to Milken, 69-66, despite 38 points and eight 3-pointers from Bret Ranhofer.

On the girls side, Canyon ran its league record to a perfect 3-0 with a 58-49 win over Saugus. Brooke LeMar scored a team-high 22 points for Canyon. West Ranch, also at 3-0 in league, knocked off Hart, 61-48. West Ranch senior Tori Wilson scored a team-high 16 points.

The Saugus girls easily handled Golden Valley, 68-16.

The Master's College men's basketball team lost to Biola, the fourth-ranked team in the NAIA, 71-57. Joey Fuca scored a team-high 24 points and hit four 3-pointers for The Master's College.

The Master's College women lost to Biola, 67-62, in a match-up of top 25 teams. Brittany Henderson scored 17 points to lead The Master's College, ranked No. 23 in the NAIA. Jessilyn Conicelli scored a team-high 22 points for No. 22 Biola.

The Dodgers have locked up the core of their baseball team for at least one more year. Reliever Jonathan Broxton and outfielder Andre Ethier agreed to terms on two-year contracts to stay with the Dodgers.

Relievers George Sherrill and Hong-Chih Kuo, catcher Russell Martin and first baseman James Loney agreed to one-year contracts with the Dodgers.

In hockey, the Kings gave up three first-period goals and lost to the San Jose Sharks, 5-1, at Staples Center. Wayne Simmonds scored the lone goal for the Kings.
