Alleged Thief Caught With Car Full Of Stolen Property

khts_crime_generic Castaic tip leads to large recovery.

A call of a car burglary in progress prompted Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies from the Santa Clarita station to respond to Castaic early this morning. The call came around 1:30 a.m. and when the first deputies arrived in the 32000 block of Ridgetop Lane they reported seeing a suspect fleeing.

Upon searching the area, lawmen came across a silver Toyota Avalon which they noticed had a suspicious number of items inside. A feel of the car hood revealed that the engine was warm, and after running the VIN number, the deputies learned that the car was stolen.

A Sheriff's department report claims that not far up the street a man was found lying down in the back seat of a red Lexus. The car's owner was contacted and confirmed that, in fact, no one should have been in the back seat of the car.

Deputies extracted 26 year-old Mark Anthony Rodriguez from the Lexus and placed him in custody.

Many items were found in the stolen Avalon, including computers, sports equipment, purses, GPS units speakers, collector coins, cell phones, credit cards and more. Additionally, Rodriguez was found to be in possession of ammunition, an expandable baton, a drug pipe, marijuana, and needles.

Rodriguez was on parole, so upon his booking he was placed on a parole hold.

He could face numerous charges after the arrest, which netted roughly 100 pieces of evidence.

It is not certain if Rodriguez lives in the Santa Clarita area; his parole address is reportedly listed out of Granada Hills.
