COC Men's Basketball Team Wins Western State Conference Opener
The College of the Canyons men's basketball won its Western State Conference opener, 73-62, against West Los Angeles. Brian Kimble led COC with 18 points. Rendon Dominguez scored 14 and Brannon Bradley scored 12 in the win.
The Saugus boys basketball team notched another win, 62-46, over West Covina. Brad Buchignani scored 20 points and had seven rebounds for Saugus. Joey Frederick recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
It's a pretty light schedule for high school basketball tonight. The Hart boys are on the road at Glendora. The Canyon girls are home against Ventura and the Valencia girls are on the road against Mark Keppel.
The Santa Clarita Christian boys soccer team hand its hands and feet full against Milken in a 7-1 loss. Daniel Stratton scored the only goal for Santa Clarita Christian. The undermanned Santa Clarita Christian team started with only 10 players and lost another to injury in the second half.
The Santa Clarita Christian girls get their shot at Milken today. The West Ranch girls soccer team is home against Peninsula.
The USC men's basketball team lost its first Pac-10 game and had its eight-game winning streak snapped in a one-point loss to Stanford. USC lost, 54-53, three days after learning the team was banned from postseason because of self-imposed sanctions resulting from recruiting violations related to former player O.J. Mayo. Dwight Lewis scored a team-high 22 points for USC.
The UCLA men's basketball team beat Cal in overtime, 76-75. Michael Roll scored the winning basket with 1.9 seconds left in overtime and had a team-high 19 points.
In the NBA, the Clippers stunned the Lakers, 102-91, and won their third game in a row. Baron Davis led the way for the Clippers with 25 points and 10 assists. Chris Kaman added 21 points and 14 rebounds. Kobe Bryant scored 33 points on 10 of 30 shooting for the Lakers.
In hockey, the Kings are at Staples Center to face the Detroit Red Wings tonight. The Kings are riding a three-game winning streak, but the Red Wings have won their past five games in a row against the Kings. The Red Wings are also winners of four straight games against the Kings at Staples Center. Pregame starts at 7 on AM 1220, KHTS.
