Save A Stray For The Holidays Saturday In Castaic
In an effort to help homeless pets this holiday season, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) will hold seven simultaneous adoption events on Saturday, December 19, including one at the Castaic Shelter on Charlie Canyon Road.
Sponsored by Found Animals Foundation, "Save-A-Stray for the Holidays," will be held at each of the six County animal shelters as well as the new AV Pet Stop, making this a true Los Angeles County-encompassing event.
Adoption fees will be reduced and all locations will open at 9:00 a.m. (the event runs from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.) to give the public additional time to interact with the animals and find a compatible pet. The reduced adoption prices will continue through Christmas Eve, December 24.
Director of Outreach and Special Enforcement, Michelle Roaché, emphasizes the significance and impact of adoption. "Each year, the Department takes in more than 90,000 animals. There are not enough homes for all of them. Supporting adoption rather than irresponsible breeding is one way to significantly help to reduce this pet over-population problem," she said.
"Save-A-Stray for the Holidays" marks DACC's first time participating in such a unique event. DACC's team of volunteers will help make this event possible, by taking on roles such as pet matchmakers, decorators, greeters, etc.
Along with Castaic, the adoption event will also take place at several other shelters, including Downey (11258 S. Garfield Ave.), Carson (216 W. Victoria St., Gardena), Baldwin Park (4275 N. Elton St.), Lancaster (5210 W. Avenue I) and Agoura (29525 Agoura Road). In addition, you can visit Antelope Valley Pet Stop at 42116 4th Street East, Lancaster.
Each location has a wonderful selection of animals just waiting for a new home. For more information, visit http://animalcare.lacounty.gov or stop by your local animal shelter.
