Canyon Boys Basketball Team Riding Six-Game Winning Streak
The Canyon boys basketball team is on a roll in its own tournament. Canyon notched its sixth straight win, 68-57 over Paraclete, in the Canyon Classic. Wesley Bartole scored a team-high 20 points and Brian Nnaoji added 17 for Canyon. Each had nine rebounds as well.
While Canyon added to its winning streak, Valencia sputtered against Lancaster in the Canyon Classic. Valencia lost to Lancaster, 61-58. Lonnie Jackson had an off night shooting, going 4-of-14 in the game, and it hurt Valencia. He missed two potential game-tying 3-pointers in the final minute of the game and ended with 26 points.
West Ranch's Martin Flowers scored a tournament-high 47 points against Eastside, and his team needed almost every one of those points in a 72-67 win. Flowers did most of his damage in the second half, scoring 25 points, and had eight rebounds.
The Hart girls basketball team trounced Santa Paula, 71-15. Victoria Lioentti scored 15 points to lead Hart.
The Saugus girls beat San Marcos, 45-36, led by Kaylynn Martin's 16 points.
The West Ranch girls lost to Agoura, 57-49. Tori Wilson had 12 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
In college basketball, College of the Canyons women's basketball coach Greg Herrick won his 400th career game as his team beat Mt. San Antonio College, the No. 4 team in the state, 73-68. Kelli Lewis had 22 points and eight assists in COC's win.
The Master's College women's team crushed San Diego Christian, 81-39. Brittany Henderson had 18 points and nine rebounds for The Master's College.
The Master's College men's basketball team got 20 points apiece from Leif Karlberg and Thomas Millar in a 93-67 win over San Diego Christian.
The Valencia girls junior varsity basketball team won the Burroughs tournament, downing Granada Hills, 66-54, in the championship game. Ashley Pinsker, the tournament most outstanding player, scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds. Jen Anumba, an all-tournament selection, scored 15 points and had six rebounds. Kalia Summerlin and Aman Bilg each scored 15 points for Valencia (3-0).
