Valencia Football Team Bows Out Of CIF Playoffs In Semifinals
The Valencia football team ended its playoff run in the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoffs. Valencia lost to Moorpark, 40-14.
Running back Steven Manfro racked up 140 yards of total offense and scored a touchdown in his team's loss, the first of the season.
Valencia won 12 games in a row and went undefeated in Foothill League play before entering playoffs. The Vikings beat Thousand Oaks in the first round, then beat Buena in the second round to advance to the semifinals of the Northern Division playoffs.
But it was a familiar story as Valencia lost to Moorpark for the second year in a row in the playoffs.
Valencia quarterback Alex Bishop threw for 193 yards. Zach Tartabull threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Jake Reed in the first quarter.
In college soccer, The Master's College men's team made it to the championship game of the NAIA soccer tournament, but lost, 1-0, to top-seeded Lindsey Wilson College.
The Master's College goalkeeper Kevin Lawson, who made the NAIA All-America first team, made three saves in the championship game. He was awarded the tournament's defensive MVP.
The Master's College women's soccer team won the championship game of the National Christian College Athletic Association tournament, 4-1, against Oliver Nazarene in Florida.
Emily Bruton scored a goal and had an assist in the championship game. She was the MVP of the tournament.
