The Master's College Men's Soccer Team Saved By Silva In Second Half
The Master's College men's soccer team needed some second-half heroics to advance in the NAIA national championship soccer tournament.
Marcelo Silva scored two goals in the final 15 minutes and led his team to a 3-1 win over Notre Dame of Ohio in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Fresno.
The Master's College will play Rio Grande of Ohio in the semifinals of the NAIA tournament on Friday.
The Canyon girls soccer team made quick work of Quartz Hill, 4-1, in the season opener for both teams. Elvia Contreras scored two goals and Malaya Cabrera had a goal and an assist for Canyon.
The Santa Clarita Christian girls soccer team doubled up on Mission of San Gabriel, 2-1. Kayla Gale and Brianna Reade scored for Santa Clarita Christian. Amanda Doty recorded assists on both goals in the season opener for the Cardinals.
The Canyon boys team got a goal and an assist from Mohammed Roknipour in a 2-1 win over Quartz Hill in the Ralph Brandt Tournament. Jordan Markovich scored the other goal for Canyon in its season opener. Canyon plays Notre Dame on Friday in the next round of the tournament.
The Saugus boys soccer team won its second game in a row, 1-0, over Crespi. Manny Padron assisted on Amir Ranjbar's goal for Saugus.
