City Installs Street Named After Fallen Deputy
Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials attend somber ceremony.
Just after 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, the City of Santa Clarita officially dedicated Dep. Randy Hamson Court.
The street is named after Deputy Randy Hamson, who was struck by a car while on duty in Santa Clarita on August 16, 2004. Over four years later, Hamson died of his injuries.
Helping to dedicate the street were City, County and Sheriff's officials. Hamson's family and friends were also on hand. His brother, a Los Angeles City firefighter, climbed up a County fire truck ladder alongside Hamson's three sons to unveil the street sign.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Leroy Baca said that Hamson willingly took on the challenges that face a law enforcement official to serve the public.
"He understood the vulnerabilities of the job we do, of the risks involved," he said. "His name will always be viably contributory to the safety and well being of those who live on this street."
Dep. Randy Hamson Court sits at the eastern tip of Via Princessa Rd., across the street from Golden Oak Elementary school and near the site of a planned senior community.
The neighborhood has yet to be fully built out, however Pardee homes has plans for the area.
