Grand Opening Set For New Phase Of Sports Complex
The City of Santa Clarita invites community members to attend the grand opening celebration for the Phase IV expansion of the City's Sports Complex at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2.
The expansion, which is right next door to the new skate park and adjacent playing field, added a multitude of amenities to the popular site, including two fully lighted outdoor basketball courts and an interim, half- acre, off leash "Canine Country Dog Park."
Covered picnic pavilions, a renovated pedestrian plaza between the complex's Activities Center and Gymnasium, beautiful landscaping and more than one mile of lighted walkways were also added to the Sports Complex as part of the Phase IV expansion, as well as more than 200 parking spaces to accommodate residents during the busy summer season and at scheduled events.
"The City of Santa Clarita works diligently to develop and implement high quality, value-based programs and facilities to encourage a healthy lifestyle," said Mayor Frank Ferry. "The expansion adds to the exemplary recreational opportunities currently available at the Sports Complex, while setting the groundwork for a fantastic facility designed to meet community needs for years to come."
The Phase IV expansion also includes the addition of a terrace and shade to increase stadium seating at the Sports Complex Aquatic Center. The new feature, located adjacent to the center's 50 meter pool, can easily accommodate and shade 635 spectators for swim meets, classes and community events.
The city completed a Master Plan for the Sports Complex in 2004, which outlined various phases of construction to the site. The Phase IV expansion assisted in preparing the site for future phases of construction with the completion of a graded pad, which will serve as the site for a new Sports Complex Gymnasium in the future.
The City of Santa Clarita Sports Complex is located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway. For more information about the Phase IV Sports Complex Expansion grand opening, or to RSVP for the event, please call the City at 661-255-4939.
