Alamo Sentenced To 175 Years In Federal Prison
Evangelist Tony Alamo will spend the rest of his natural life in federal custody, after being sentenced to 175 years in prison by a Texas judge.
Alamo was convicted July 10 of 10 counts of taking girls across state lines for sexual purposes. Some of his victims were as young as 8 years old and were "wives" of the convicted felon who has a compound in Saugus up Sierra Highway, as well as other locations, mostly in the South.
His attorneys have filed a petition for leniency, but the judge can apply a sentencing ensuring that Alamo will never be released. His conviction and sentencing also carry a potential fine of $2.5 million.
The 175-year sentence is the maximum allowed by federal guidelines. A restitution hearing for the victims is set January 13.
