Valencia Football Team Looks To Stay Undefeated Against Saugus

sportslocalThe Valencia football team brings its perfect 8-0 record to College of the Canyons against Saugus tonight.

Valencia is coming off a 56-7 blowout against Hart. Saugus, 42-26 winners over Golden Valley last week, is fighting for its playoff life.


Three teams are tied for second place in the Foothill League. Only the top three teams in league are guaranteed playoff spots.


Saugus, Hart and West Ranch each have 2-1 records in Foothill League play. Hart and West Ranch play tonight at Valencia High School. West Ranch is coming off a closely contested 23-18 win over Canyon.

In the battle of the winless, Canyon plays Golden Valley. Each team is 0-8 and looking for its first win of the season.

In high school golf, the Hart girls broke a school record and won the CIF Southern Section Northern Divisional at the par-72 Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.

Hart shot 386 as a team, a school record for an 18-hole course, and advanced to the CIF-Southern Section Final at Mountain Meadows Golf Course in Pomona.

In high school cross country, the Saugus boys and girls cross country teams won the Foothill League finals at Central Park.

In high school volleyball, Valencia won its eighth straight Foothill League championship outright with a three-game sweep over Golden Valley. West Ranch finished second in league with a thrilling five-game win over Hart. Saugus swept Canyon in three games.
