Child Dies In Saturday Afternoon Crash

A 3-year-old girl was killed Saturday in a two-car collision on the northbound 14 freeway.

Nathalie Moctezuma was a passenger in a 2000 Chevy Astro van being driven by her grandfather, Marin Borunda, 46. Also in the van were three women, Rosa Maria Borunda, 49; Rosa Marie Borunda, 24 and Elizabeth Borunda, 14. The occupants were all from Los Angeles.

The van was traveling northbound near Newhall Avenue shortly after noon when the tread separated from the left rear tire, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The van traveled eastbound toward a second vehicle, a 2004 Toyota Camry, driven by Gregg Allen Richmond, 47, of Canyon Country.

The two vehicles hit and the force of the collision drove both of them out of control towards a hillside. After impact with the hillside, the child was ejected from the vehicle and was killed instantly.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the collision. The use of passenger restraints for the child is under investigation.

Elizabeth and Martin Borunda suffered moderate injuries in the crash, all other involved suffered minor injuries; all were transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital for treatment.
