TRAFFIC: Rain Causes Crashes, Long Delays
UPDATED: 12:40 p.m.
TRAFFIC ALERT- The SigAlert on the northbound 405 at Rinaldi has been cancelled. Traffic had been down to one lane on the freeway after a big rig jackknifed and leaked fuel.
That accident is one of several that has made travel hazardous throughout the Southland over the last 24 hours.
Earlier today, an overturned big rig on the southbound I-5 in Gavin Canyon caused a diversion of all traffic from the freeway at Calgrove Boulevard and the closure of all on- and off-ramps at Valencia Boulevard, McBean Parkway and Lyons Avenue. That Sigalert was lifted shortly after 8 a.m., but the resultant crush of traffic left lingering effects on the morning commute.
Traffic had been diverted from the freeway at Calgrove and on- and off-ramps in Newhall and Valencia were closed shortly to control the amount of cars on the road.
The increased traffic load spilled over to all major roads in Santa Clarita including Lyons and Newhall Avenues. Highway 14 also suffered; cars were backed up to Sand Canyon Rd.
A KHTS Traffic Alert went out to warn drivers this morning both via text message and email. To sign up for free KHTS Text Message Traffic Alerts, simply text SCVTRAFFIC to 41411.
