Festival Of Afts Attracts A Big Crowd
The Santa Clarita Festival of the Arts gave thousands of visitors something to look at, listen to, taste, feel, sense and experience on Saturday and Sunday.
While acrobats from Cirque Experience glided effortlessly over the crowd on long sheets of fabric, drummers and dancers performed every style from rhythmic native beats to hip-hop and jazz.
Cowboy poets, classical strings, country bands and even the sounds of rock 'n' roll filled the air, during the six-block celebration of visual and performing arts.
Main Street was closed from Fifth Street to Lyons Avenue for the event, which was the most varied festival to date. The traditional chalk painters were in full bloom, with professional artists working side-by-side with schoolchildren and groups creating colorful vignettes of classical pieces, whimsical storybook and graphic novel images.
The annual festival was considered a success by all involved, including many businesses who enjoyed a boom in customers and sales. Restaurants and theaters also benefited from the event, which brought in many new patrons.
