Prime Suspect In Burglary Spree Behind Bars

khts_crimeThe prime suspect in a rash of Saugus and Valencia area break-ins was arrested Tuesday after she broke into a Bridgeport home and was surprised by the owner.

Patricia Arevalo, 22, of Saugus, knocked on the front door of a home on Back Bay Court, then went around the back of the house and broke in. When the owner of the home came downstairs, Arevalo fled empty-handed.

Deputies responding to the location quickly broadcast a description of the car Arevalo was driving, which was spotted five blocks away where she was knocking on another front door. Detectives arrested her and searched the car, which she said belonged to her boyfriend. Found in the car were some stolen jewelry and other items.

Detectives then went to the Saugus home of the car owner, Ryan Clapham, 26 and arrested him on suspicion of receiving stolen property and possession of heroin.

Arevalo was also charged with possession of heroin.

A search warrant was obtained for Arevalo's home, where detectives found more jewelry and stolen property; Arevalo cooperated with deputies and provided information about pawn shops where she had sold some of the items obtained in previous burglaries, along with information and other victims locations.

Detectives determined that Arevalo was probably the person behind a series of daytime break-ins in the Seco Canyon and Bridgeport areas that had occurred recently.

Both Arevalo and Clapham were booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, where she is being held in lieu of $350,000 bail. Clapham was released after posting $20,000 bail. Both are due in court on Thursday.
