Another Marijuana Dealer Behind Bars After Wakeup Call

khts_crime

Another wakeup call for drug dealers took a significant amount of marijuana off the market and landed suspected cultivator and dealer Sonny Greenback behind bars.

For the second time this week, Narcotics Bureau detectives working in our valley took down a suspected drug dealer.

The investigation began more than three months ago when station personnel received several anonymous "We Tip" phone calls through the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's Crime Tips telephone hot-line, (661) 284-2-TIP.

The investigation resulted in a search warrant, which was served early this morning.

The tipsters had their suspicions about the residence located in a quiet Saugus neighborhood in the 22000 block of Alamogordo Drive. They noticed the strong odor of marijuana and several air conditioning units running non-stop day and night.

After the suspect was in handcuffs and the deputies had found hundreds of marijuana plants at various stages of growth and cultivation, several neighbors came out and thanked deputies.

"We all had our suspicions," said one neighbor.

Detectives found nearly 200 marijuana plants with an estimated street sales value of $200,000. The detectives also discovered the electrical meter at the location had been bypassed, which under California law is a felony, as well as a substantial fire risk.

Southern California Edison representatives responded to render the power situation safe. The investigation also revealed the substantial cultivation operation was complete with irrigation systems, dozens of fans and ventilation systems, elaborate lighting systems running 24-hours a day, altered power panels, a surveillance camera system, and detailed harvest timetables and schedules.

They also recovered thousands of dollars in U.S. currency.

Greenback, 51, was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on suspicion of marijuana cultivation and theft of electricity. He is being held in lieu of 30,000 bail pending future court proceedings.
