College Of The Canyons Women's Volleyball Starts Season In San Luis Obispo

news_sportsThe College of the Canyons women's volleyball team starts its season in the Straight Down Tournament at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo on Saturday. Canyon High grads Ashlie Arnold and Jillian Anderson return to a team that was ranked 21st in the state last year by the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association.

Saugus High grad Lindsey Wilcox and West Ranch grad Brooklyn Arndt are also on the COC team.


The College of the Canyons women's golf team gets its season started this weekend too. The women begin play in a two-day Western State Conference tournament at Olivas Links golf course in Ventura on Sunday.

In college soccer, Katie Russ, a Canyon High graduate, made her second start in two games for the Cal State Northridge women's soccer team.

CSUN won its first game, 3-1, over San Diego State University on Sunday. Russ, a redshirt freshman defender, received a yellow card in the 74th minute. It was one of three yellow cards issued to CSUN players in the game.

Next up for CSUN is Loyola Marymount on Thursday. Game time is at 5 p.m. at Northridge.

In women's golf, Lady Samson, a Valencia High graduate and sophomore at CSUN, was third in the Ventura County Women's Championship in June. She shot a 159 over the two-round tournament at the Olivas Links and Buena Ventura golf courses. She finished four shots behind Kelley Morris, the women's champion.
