Runner Allyson Felix Wins Gold In Berlin
Santa Clarita resident Allyson Felix won her third straight gold medal in the women's 200 meter race at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin.
With a time of 20.02, Felix bested Veronica Campbell Brown of Jamaica and Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie of the Bahamas who took the silver and bronze, respectfully.
Felix told CNN the location of her win - the stadium where Adolf Hitler presided over the 1936 Olympics and the track where Jesse Owens also took home the gold - had unique significance.
"It is very special for me to win here in Berlin," said Felix. "I've worked really hard to defend my title and I cannot ask for more. All my titles are different but this one happened in a stadium with a lot of history so this is definitely something special for me."
