Sheriff Asking Public's Help In Catching Vending Machine Vandals
Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's Burglary and Theft Team are investigating six incidents of burglary from vending machines at local schools, dating back to July 10. Detectives have obtained some video footage of the suspects and a possible vehicle and are seeking public assistance in identifying and locating those responsible for the crimes.
Although the video footage is not top quality (click on each picture for video) and the suspects are heavily disguised, sheriff's officials are hopeful that someone in the public will know something about these cases or the vehicle seen in the video. One of the suspects appears to be wearing a green bandana and rolled cuff blue jeans. He also has on white socks and tennis shoes.
Detectives have been actively investigating the six incidents which occurred at Bowman High School -21508 Centre Point Parkway, Canyon Country; West Ranch High School - 26255 W. Lee Parkway, Canyon Country between July 10 and August 10.
Detectives believe the same suspects may be responsible for all six incidents. Each time the incidents occurred over the weekend during nighttime hours. Deputies have increased patrol checks at all Santa Clarita schools and are asking the public to be vigilant in reporting suspicious persons or vehicles around our schools at night.
During the commission of the crimes, the suspects are wearing dark clothing and backpacks. They are also carrying a crow or pry bar and other bulky tools used in the commission of the crimes. In at least one case, they used a portable torch which can put off a considerable amount of bright light at night.
In each case, the suspects are doing substantial damage to the machines and getting away with minimal coins or currency. Once apprehended, the suspects are likely to face several felony charges including burglary and vandalism.
