Gang Members Arrested For Assaulting Two In Canyon Country

khts_crimeDeputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station responded to reports of a baseball bat assault and stabbing Saturday night which occurred in the 15400 block of Sierra Highway in Canyon Country.

A verbal altercation occurred between several juveniles at a party.  The juveniles confronted each other nearby after leaving the party and the situation escalated when one of the involved subjects reportedly brandished a baseball bat and another brandished a knife.

During the altercation one of victims, a 17-year old Caucasian male from Hacienda Heights was apparently struck with the baseball bat and was stabbed at least one time in the torso.  A second victim, a 19-year old Hispanic male from Canyon Country was apparently struck with the baseball bat.  Both were taken to a nearby fire station by a witness, where they received initial treatment.

They were transported to a local area hospital for further treatment.  Their current condition is not known, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station continued their investigation and detectives from the City of Santa Clarita / Sheriff's COBRA Team immediately responded to assist in the investigation.

Within hours deputies had arrested two suspected juvenile gang members in connection with the crime.  Both were 17 year-old Hispanic males, one a resident of Canoga Park and the other from Canyon Country. They were arrested in the 30000 block of Tick Canyon Road, Canyon Country.

Both suspects were booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon.  They were later transported to Sylmar Juvenile Hall for housing pending future court proceedings.
