Acton Driver Becomes First Woman To Win Demolition Derby At Irwindale

sportslocalActon's Shayla Zins made a little demolition derby history at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday.

She became the first woman driver to win a demolition derby in the history of the track. Driving a beat-up, cash for clunker Ford station wagon, Zins survived an eight-car field and won $1,000.

In other action at the track, Canyon Country's RJ Johnson was third in the NASCAR Super Trucks race and Acton's Kenny Maler was eighth in the Legend Cars race.

Ryan Partridge of Rancho Cucamonga won the Super Trucks race, his first of the season. Rookie Dallas Montes of Bakersfield won the Legend Cars race, also his first of the season.

Valencia's Mark Borchetta was 10th in the Legend Cars race.

In the Firestone Indy Lights series, Bryan Herta Autosport posted a couple of top 10s in the race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Felipe Guimaraes, making his second start for the team owned by Valencia's Bryan Herta, finished fourth. Daniel Herrington was sixth.

Both drivers will be back on the track in a couple weeks at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma.

Go to Haddock in the Paddock for video interviews of the drivers from Toyota Speedway at Irwindale and race recaps from Irwindale and Mid-Ohio.
