Slurry Coming To A Street Near You

khts_trafficalertThe city continues its efforts to provide safe roadways.

In an effort to keep our roadways in pristine condition, Santa Clarita, is conducting its annual overlay and slurry seal program throughout the city.

The program runs from July through October every year and is designed to create a smoother ride for traffic by eliminating potholes, as well as improve the overall quality of the cities roadways.

"The project is an investment in our roadways and maintains the overall aesthetics of the City as a whole," said Mayor Frank Ferry

Much of the program work will be done at night to lessen the impact on the surrounding communities.

"If we are getting ready to do a street or roadway, we let those that are living or working on the streets know well ahead of time that there will be a lane closure due to the street overlay," said Gail Ortiz, communications manager for Santa Clarita.

The project runs in the summer months because the heat actually helps the slurry adhere to the road surfaces, and also because the projects are typically not hampered by inclement weather.

Numerous streets throughout Santa Clarita Valley will be resurfaced, and because of the number of streets impacted, the city has set up a hotline to provide residents with up-to-date information.

Santa Clarita bicyclists will also benefit from the project as some bike trails will receive surface sealing, root and tree branch removal, and the installation of a root barrier.
