CHP's "No Belt, No Brains" PSAs to air in movie theatresalt

While California teens are saving seats, the California Highway Patrol hopes to be saving lives. The CHP has announced plans for a new campaign to encourage young people to buckle up when they get into a car.

The "No Belt, No Brains" program will air public service announcements in 1,200 theatres statewide. Funded by a $750,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, the program will take advantage of those few popcorn-munching minutes before PG, PG-13, and R rated movies. Printed material from the California High School Seat Belt Challenge will also be distributed to businesses and state and local agencies in targeted regions.

Traffic collisions remain the leading cause of death among 15 to 20 year olds nationwide. Los Angeles County is among 13 California counties to report failure to use safety belts as a major factor in teen deaths.
