Bear Visiting Visitors At Pyramid Lake
Sheriff's deputies spent a good part of the day Wednesday with a black bear (example at right not the actual bear) up a tree near the entrance of Pyramid Lake.
The bear had allegedly approached a worker eating lunch in a park storage yard before running up into the tree. The worker chased the bear towards the tree, where it climbed up and stayed.
The deputies shot a rubber ball at the bear, which didn't seem to faze it, according to Lt. Tom Bryskie of the Santa Clarita Valley station. Bryskie said the 150-pound bear got out of the tree and went down into a drainage ditch area. Deputies remain in the area to make sure Fish and Game officials will be able to capture and move the bear to a safer location.
This is the second time a bear has visited areas of the park where people brought in food. The watch commander reported Monday that the bear had been seen in the lake area over the weekend, but had run into the hills when people approached.
