The City of Ember, by Erica Horak
Hi, my name is Erica Horak, and I am a fourth grader in Mrs Malkowski’s class at Valencia Valley Elementary School in the Newhall School District.
I will be reviewing the book The City of Ember, written by Jeanne DuPrau. It was written in 2003, and is 288 pages.
Builders built the underground City of Ember to save the people from disaster. The main characters are a girl named Lina and a boy named Doon. Their city has low supplies such as lights, and a generator that almost always breaks down. The city is slowly dying. Lina and Doon go to the underground of the City of Ember in a pipeline repair place and find a way out of their endangered city through an underground river. When they arrive in the New World, they soon discovered that they could see their old city. At the end of the book, Lina dn Doon sent a message to the City of Ember, saying that they found a new world. Lina’s babysitter found the message and started to untie it. This is where the book ends – as a mystery. You have to read the sequel to find out what happens next!
I thought The City of Ember was a great book because it was full of suspense and I couldn’t wait to find out how it ends.
I believe that young readers would like the book because when reading it, you never know what is going to happen next.
