Shults, Madison Make All-CIF Softball First Team

The Hart and Valencia softball teams were well represented on the All-CIF Division I teams. Hart’s Jessica Shults and Valencia’s Madison Shipman earned first team spots.
Two of Shults’ teammates made the All-CIF second team: pitcher Destiny Rodino, who threw a no-hitter in the CIF Division I playoffs, and second baseman Melissa Brown. Valencia’s Carly Mortensen, who took a no-hitter into the seventh inning of her first playoff game, was also named to the All-CIF second team.

Norco’s senior pitcher Tegan Gerhart was the CIF Division I player of the year. Norco eliminated Hart from the Division I playoffs in the semifinals.
In high school volleyball, Valencia’s Nick Ferry earned All-CIF Division II first team honors.
Teammates John Souisa earned second team honors and Daniel Johnson was on the third team. Jake Kneller from Westlake High School was the Division II player of the year.
College of the Canyons will be the home away from home for the Las Vegas Summer Baseball Club this weekend. The Las Vegas Baseball Club is a scout team of high school players for the Los Angeles Angels.
Sports Illustrated cover boy Bryce Harper is on the Las Vegas team, although he is not expected to play this weekend. Dillon Myer, described by some as the fastest baseball player in Nevada, is also on the Las Vegas team.
Games start on Friday at College of the Canyons. The Las Vegas team will play the So Cal Reds scout team at 2 and then the Easton Elite team at 4:30.
Games continue Saturday and Sunday against an Indians scout team and a scout team from Riverside.
