RJ Johnson Wins Again In Super Trucks At Irwindale
Canyon Country’s R.J. Johnson won the NASCAR Super Trucks race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday night. It was his second Super Trucks win in the past three races at the track It was also his second win since changing the number on his truck from 88 to 15, the same number his dad and grandfather ran when they raced at Saugus Speedway.
Johnson is sixth in the Super Trucks standings at Irwindale. He trails leader Pat Mintey Jr. of Quartz Hill by 38 points.
Rich DeLong III of Santa Clarita was 15th.
Travis Thirkettle of Fillmore posted a pair of top 10s in the NASCAR Super Late Model races at the track. He was eighth in the first of two Super Late Model races. He was ninth in the second race.
Todd Southwell, a Canyon High graduate, was 18th in the first race and 10th in the second race. Southwell was making his first two starts of the season at Irwindale in a car normally driven by Dennis Furden from Santa Clarita.
Nick Joanides, a driver from Woodland Hills and the leader in the Super Late Model standings at Irwindale, won both Super Late Model races.
Kanny Maler Jr. of Acton was 11th in the Legends Cars race. Brandon Toy, a driver from Bakersfield, won the Legends race. He is also the leader in the Legends standings at the track.
In the NASCAR Camping World Series West, Greg Pursley, a Canyon High graduate, was eighth in Saturday night’s race at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg. Ore. Eric Holmes, the leader in the West Series standings, won the race.
